With limited resources and services available amid the COVID-19 pandemic, many ‘hunger heroes’ in Hyderabad have come forward to help the destitute and elderly people staying alone at home and needy people suffering financially with a lockdown in the city.
Among many, there is one organization whose name is self-explanatory: GODDESS POOR ORGANIZATION(GPO). It was set up by Karthik Bhumi Reddy, a student in Bharath University Chennai.
From past two months, GPO was busy arranging packets of rice, dal, and vegetables for people living on pavements, under the flyovers, pedestrian bridges, etc.
Goddess Poor organization is working for the last two years in feeding the hungry, focusing primarily on poor and Donating Blood Donations At hospitals For Needy. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic raging, GPO has turned his attention towards the destitute.
While Asking About His Thought to start this organization, he said that
"ON THE DAY WHEN I WATCHED THE POOR. WHO ARE EAGERLY WAITING FOR THE FOOD ON ROADSIDE SITTING ON THE UNEVEN SURROUNDINGS, THAT DAY I GOT EMOTIONAL AND MY HEART MELTED AND I DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING FOR THEM AND STARTED AN ORGANIZATION...
THE THOUGHT TO HELP THEM MAKES ME TO START /LEAD FOR THIS ORGANIZATION .!.!"
-BHUMIREDDDY KARTHIK REDDY
Karthik said, "once a month, mostly on Saturdays/Sundays, he gets Some Funds And Rise Distribution Of healthy food, Fruits, and then goes to various Locations To Distribute Like Roadside Hungers, Patients In Hospitals& their relatives, etc....
"I make sure that it reaches the right person. Since March 21, (a day before the Janata Curfew), I have decided to distribute food items to the destitute also," he said. "Today, I have started this service with packets containing rice, dal, and vegetables, etc... for daily needs. Besides the food, I am also distributing soaps to them so that they can maintain some hygiene. My target is to feed nearly 200 people in a week.”
“We Got With Some Volunteers and requested the state government to allow us to distribute the items as we will be needing police permission due to the lockdown," Karthik said. "From tomorrow, we will start distributing this to all the needy persons who are hungry and require food."
The message from GPO compassionate and dedicated partners working on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic is loud and clear: food supplies are dwindling fast.
The coronavirus pandemic has brought hunger to millions of people around the world. Lockdowns are forcing people to stay home, hurting the poor’s ability to earn an income, disrupting agriculture, and leaving many worrying about how they will get enough to eat.
But the GPO became a hope For Some Of them.
Here is what our colleagues and Volunteers are saying:
By adhering to all safety and hygiene measures, GPO Taken part

#2 225 Families Challenge In Proddatur
“The help From GPO of For The Poor is essential to the lives of the people we cannot get support to yet. Like the rest of the world, we have never seen nor imagined something like this, where the entire world is under quarantine. We know neediness existed here, but this virus is threatening to increase the effects of this neediness because those who once attempted to provide for their families are now stuck at home by governmental order and for fear of their lives. When people receive the care packages, they give so many thanks to God.”
The volunteers in our region listed out 225 families who are seeking for their daily needs.so, In association with the help of the police Mr.Losari Sudhakar(DSP), we have served all the people for their daily needs.
Each meal kit, procured with the funds and costing INR 300, should last a family of five for a week and contains a combination of basic staples such as wheat flour, rice, and two kinds of pulses, etc...
